Teach me Tuesday Week 4!

Today we were lucky to have Sunghyun and Jamie teaching us. 

Sunghyun taught us how to speak some basic greetings and words in Korean. We learnt how to say, "My name is ....". In Korean you say this as,"Ne i-rum un (your name here) ya". Remember that in Korea people say their first name last, and last name first. He also taught us how to count to ten. Here is the numbers from one to ten.

Our other teacher, Jamie demonstrated how to mix music like a real live DJ! First he showed us how to use his mixer, and showed us all the things he could do to change the music. Then he let some people have a turn. It was pretty cool adding sound effects and changing the speed, pitch and sound of the track.

Sharing our learning

On Wednesday and Thursday we all shared our learning goals and achievements to our families. 

It was a great time, and everyone did a fantastic job leading the learning conversations and activities too.

Swimming super stars!

Congratulations to Emily and Caiden for your great results as part of the UHPS swim team at the North Shore swimming competition late last term. 

The team came 3rd place overall! What an awesome effort!

TERM 2 - JUNGLE JIVE!

This terms school wide concept is sustainability.  
In the Skyscrapers community our major focus will be investigating sustainability of the tropical rain forests. Children will learn about the features of a rainforest environment and the ecosystems that operate within them. They will learn about the plants and animals in the rainforest and will explore the impact that humans have on the rainforest environment. Our Inquiry unit will include a zoo trip to visit some rainforest animals in their natural habitat. Here's a Rainforest mural that we created in Week 1 of this term. 

Teach me Tuesday starts again!

It was "Teach me Tuesday again today. Today Gina taught us how to make origami frogs. She was very patient with us and carefully explained how to fold the paper and create a jumping frog. It was really cool.

After the origami lesson, Marina and Caiden took us out on to the court for a sports lesson. Marina organised 14 of us into a netball game. She explained the rules and positions clearly, and both teams played a close game.

On the other court Caiden lead 10 of us in a soccer game.  
Everybody had heaps of fun kicking the ball around. Some excellent goals were scored by Saahil!

Thanks Gina, Marina and Caiden. It was another great "Teach me Tuesday!"

Autumn poetry

This week we came back to school to find that autumn had arrived. Some of our trees had turned from green to gold and the temperature had dropped too. On Monday we spent some time out in the grounds looking at the trees and writing poems about the things we could see, hear and feel.

Autumn leaves falling from naked trees.
Sand yellow leaves falling onto soft fresh grass
Bony old trees bending in the wind
Rustling from withered claw-like leaves
The out of place tree has leaves with diseases
The smell of cinnamon comes from the shrivelled up leaves
Behind me stands the lush green everlasting trees
Autumn, autumn has come to stay
And leaves fall to the ground

Falling yellow leaves from fishing rod trees
The tree is feeling alone from inside to the bone
It is sad and scared

Hiwi the Kiwi- the minstrel teaches us about sustainability

Today at Upper Harbour we had a special treat. "The minstrel" came to school and through songs and stories taught us about sustainable fishing. 

It was a really entertaining concert, and we enjoyed participating in fun songs and learning about how we need to look after our fish for the future, and how to be safe when fishing. It was a good introduction to the term's concept: Sustainability.
