Camp memories

We had a blast at Camp. Here are some of our memories.

Kayaking. By Jack Cook

"Everyone put a lifejacket on and make sure it fits," said the instructor Joel. We all put a life jacket on and grabbed a paddle. We all hopped into a kayak and when Joel pushed us off the platform into the river it felt like a roller coaster.

If you hit the river bank, you robbed the bank. When you looked at the big rocks they looked like crocodiles. When you paddled fast the crisp air flowed into your mouth.

The rough kayak felt like crocodile skin. On the side of the river you could smell the fresh plants. The river looked like a mini nature trail, but instead of rocks there was water.

I capsized 3 times. The water was a freezing refreshing bath. After kayaking, Joel said to stand up in our kayaks. When I stood up, the boat rocked and I fell in.

After, me and Brandon had to drag the kayaks up onto the platform.

The Scream Machine.  By Joseph S

One more pseron left...come on! I was sick of people screaming and saying, "It's weird!" I wanted a turn.

Finally, Yay, it's my turn. After I got harnessed on the parents clipped a rope to the harness.

I swung and swung, up and down. I heard the wind whistling in my ears and people were urging me to scream.

Getting dizzy after a minute, I felt the harness and rope rubbing against me. The helmet was bouncing on my head like a spring. I had no feeling in my feet at all! Suddenly I felt a bump. He had let go of the rope!

I hardly saw anything because I was spinning so fast. I saw blurred images of people looking, people climbing and getting suited up. I saw the rope flying behind me like it had a mind of its own, flying and twisting like a snake in the air.

But what I saw then was the people laughing afterwards.

Athletics adventures

At UHPS we enjoy Athletics sports. This year was no exception. Here are some people's experiences from the UHPS Athletics sports day.

Long Jump. By Natasha A

One more person until my turn. I was at Athletics day. I was doing long jump. After what felt like a million hours it was finally my turn.

"Ready...Go!" said Miss Byers.

I ran as fast as I could. I saw the mat and jumped. But I accidentally stepped over the mat. So my jump was considered a no jump. Luckily we got two turns each. I went to go line up again for my second turn. I was so nervous I couldn't stand still. Finally it was my turn again. This was my last chance.

"Ready...Go!" said Miss Byers to me for the last time.

I sprinted as fast as my legs could go. I could feel the wind rushing in my face. I jumped as high and far as I could. I was so happy with myself when I found out that I came second place! This was definitely the best athletics day ever!

High Jump. By James E

When I was running around in a horse shoe shape, I thought, "How am I going to jump that high bar?" I tried to concentrate on my jump and planted my foot and jumped... and made it!

"Phew!" I'm glad I made 1 metre 5. Now it's time for 1 metre 10. There's no way that I'm going to make it.

I run up and jump... and hit the bar off and I said, "No!" The feeling of disappointment flooded through my brain.
"Never mind," I said to myself, "You tried your best."
