Thinking about Freedom

Today's thinking question was, "What does it mean to be Free?"

This was quite a deep question, but we came up with lots of great ideas. Here are three of our thinking responses:

"What does it mean to be Free?" by Chloe S
Being free is to feel like you're in an open space, with no annoying sounds or annoying brothers and sisters. To feel free can be some place you want to have time alone. But my idea to be free is when I'm playing my piano, or when I'm in an open field that I can dance and run around in.
Freedom also means peacefulness, silence, or like when you are surrounded by little kids and you get away and sigh from relief. These things can be freedom too.

I like being free, it makes me feel happy and relaxed at the same time.

What does it mean to be free? by Maia W

Being free means many things. Being free is when you're at home, with nobody around. I can eat and drink whatever I want. Being free is when I don't have to do what my mum and dad says. That's when I'm free.
When I'm bed all I can hear is birds singing, the wind, and Bonnie barking. I'm free!

When I'm at home with Bonnie, I can be free. It's peaceful when we're outside. We play, we dance, we're peaceful and free!

When I play soccer I'm free because the wind blows in my face and nobody's marking me. I'm free!
I'm peaceful and free when I have no annoying brothers around me.

This is what it means to be free.

What does it mean to be free? by Jaime B

Being free means many things. It can mean if you've been stuck somewhere for a long time and you finally get to leave, or get out...you're free.

It can also mean if you have been at school or at work for hours, and you finally get home you are free. Another way to feel free is when you've just sitting in your room reading or playing- away from any annoying things and it is so peaceful and freeing.

You can also fell free in different ways like when you can just run around in a big grassy area, you feel free. You can feel free when you can do whatever you want. Feeling free is the best feeling!

Cupcake decorating with Robyn

It was "Teach Me Tuesday" again this week.

Robyn was this week's teacher and she did a great job showing us how to make butter icing, and then ice cupcakes that she brought with her.

We had fun spreading icing onto our cupcakes and decorating them with sprinkles!
Thanks for sharing your skills with us Robyn!

Reflection Friday

This term we are starting a new routine called "Reflection Friday". This involves having to reflect on and answer a thinking question. Today's question was: "Who is someone you admire and why?" Here are two responses to today's "Reflection Friday" question.

My Mum- By Keita T

There are a lot of people who I admire, but one person in particular is my mum. I admire her because she works all day for me and my siblings, (one big brother and one little sister) with only the night and a few minutes to rest or something free.

Another reason why I admire her is because she is a great piano teacher. A piano teacher is one of the four things I want to be when I grow up. That is why I admire this person.

My Dad- By Xavier R

I have grown up to admire lots of people who help me and have given me a lot of inspiration in my life, like Bear Grylls, and all of my friends that help me and are really kind. But the person I admire the most is my father.

He is a really nice person who was a Star Wars fan when he was really young. Now he's grown up to be a great father that plays with me and my brother every day. My dad is also quite a fast racer. When it comes to biking, he's a superstar! He once reached 80km hour- double my record. My dad is also a really fast runner. He could beat me in a race if he was running and I was riding my bike.

When it come to weird stuff about my dad, I think the weirdest thing he does is bring us to the graveyard where we break the speed limits of our bikes!

Welcome back to Term 3!

Room 13 has had a great start back to school this term.

Our new school wide concept: Patterns, has given us several opportunities to create beautiful patterned art pieces.

We have made beautiful kowhai-whai patterned, pou panels to decorate the classroom and hall as part of our Maori language week activities.

Our term focus for writing is Narrative writing, and we have already written two descriptive stories. We are looking forward to having Mr Millett tutoring us more with our story writing.

Our Term 3 Numeracy learning has also begun, and we have started investigating fractional numbers.

A highlight of our first week was starting our hessian sewing projects. We are working in buddy pairs (from Room 16 and 15) to create patterned samplers using a range of embroidery stitches. Here are some photos of a few of us sewing with our buddies.

It looks like we have a great term of learning to look forward to!
