Statistics Learning

Over the last 5 weeks Room 20 have been learning about how to conduct a statistical enquiry. We started by investigating all types of graphs, e.g. bar chart, pictogram, line graph, pie chart. We distinguished the purposes for each type of graph and analysed each type. We then had to think of a question that we would like our community to answer in our very own statistical survey. We worked in pairs. Some of our questions were:
  • Where would the Trailblazers like to go on a school trip next term?
  • How might we collect money in a hall fundraiser?
  • In what ways could we beautify the school grounds?
With  these questions in mind we surveyed 24 students across our community. We then graphed our data using a range of graphs. We also tried to think of a numerical question that we might be able to tie into our initial question. We used a line graph or stem and leaf graph to show this information.

We learnt a lot by completing our statistical enquiry.

Some of our survey questions have lead to small enterprising outcomes including a mini hall fundraiser, (thanks Nicole and Tamzin), and a confirmed trip to Motat (Cheers! Lauren and Cassady).
