Teach me Tuesday- Week 8!

Today we had a great time on "Teach me Tuesday!" Amie started by sharing some great science facts and experiments. Her first experiment demonstrated how air takes up space.

Her second activity involved the class creating tetrahedrons made out of lollies and tooth picks. These shapes represented the diamond- the strongest shape and structure. It was really cool!
After Amie's awesome science session, Alvin taught us how to say a few phrases in Mandarin, Chinese.
First we learnt to count to 10.

一
  èr
三  sān
  sì
  wǔ
  liù
  qī
  bā
  jiǔ
  shí
Next he taught us how to say "Hello, my name is ...." Here we are introducing ourselves in Mandarin.

Mission Impossible in Room 13

On Monday we headed back to class after assembly to find that our class was a web of red lasers. Spy music was booming from the speakers, and it was our mission to negotiate the laser field. Here are some people's thoughts about the event.

Evil Mrs Millett. By Gina L

"Shhh.." I whispered to the other spies. I was freaking out. All of a sudden...
"You touched the laser!" someone whispered
"The evil villain, Mrs. Millett must have set up this up," I thought.

Agent Marina and I were partners and we were doing pretty well until...'ZAP!' went a laser as I touched it with my head. Stuck, screaming and shouting spies. I'm sure that if I was the villain I would have heard us.

There were determined spies everywhere. More and more gaining on the evil Mrs. Millett. I could taste the anticipation. Mission Impossible really was impossible. The lasers were as red as fire.
Finally we were finished. "Wow!" I'm pretty sure I'm not going to be nagged into being a spy.

The Laser Beams.
By Alvin L

My spine was chilling not wanting to touch the web of laser beams. I felt my heart beat very fast when I saw people rolling and dodging but still not managing to get out!

Finally it was my turn. Caiden was my partner and he was way more confident that I was. I was sure that I would not get out, but I still tried.

"Woah!" I almost touched a laser, and I would have to start over. The distracting music some how made me do better. "Yes!" I whispered to myself as I crawled over the finish line. A few minutes later Caiden finished and we were the first team to cross over the finish line.

My hardest mission yet
By Xavier R

It was time. It was time for my hardest mission yet. I had to go through a field filled with highly undeadly string! I was talking to my agent friend with the code name, 'I die a lot.'

We were last, and our mission was actually quite easy because we were the lowest agent rank, and they didn't trust us with real lasers.

We jumped around all the obstacles that were ahead of us. Finally we got to the end and so we went back for more.

It was the second time and I hoped it would be easier for me. Sadly, I went a bit to intensely. I ran. "Oh, I'm lucky those lasers were just string, or half my body would be gone!" I ran a bit more. "Uh oh, my head touched it. That would have been rough!"

Finally we finished and I thought of all the pain I could have had if those were real lasers!

Terrifying blind walking

Last Wednesday Mrs Millett suggested that we participate in a blind walk to inspire our writing. We took turns to lead our buddy on a blind walk around the playground. Some leaders were very kind and helped us negotiate around the playground without bumping into things. Other leaders were not so kind and lead us up ladders and down the rope wall...all with our eyes closed. Here are three recounts about the event.

The Swirling Blackness- By Nicole
"Now take a big step up", instructed Lukas's amused voice. Swirling blackness surrounded me. My brain was whizzing around trying to locate where I was. I gripped the strong ropes which led me to another platform. I shuffled my feet and waved my arms wildly to hep me adventure around the evil playground.
Classmates were talking. It sounded very far away from me. I felt small and scared like a baby mouse. I wasn't too sure that I trusted Lukas.
The whistle blew. "At last!" I muttered. My eyes flicked open. I was so glad that I could see again.

The Blind walk- By Alvin
"WOAH" as I walked down the playground platform. We were doing a classroom activity which I thought was not fun, "BONK" went the sound of my head banging against the bridge.
" Don't tell me to do stupid things!" I yelled angrily at Ruben.
"Okay, okay" Ruben replied in a silly voice.
Finally the horrible tragedy of the evil commander was over. It was time for me to be the evil leader it was such fun having a slave at my command.

The Blind walk- By Emily

Pitch blackness. Right behind me is Amie amazingly leading me on an awesome yet absolutely terrifying journey called the blind walk. An explosion of feelings crept up inside me when Amie suddenly said, "OK, we're starting!"

I slowly walked forward drowning in the voices of the other people shouting, "Left, right, stop and go!"
Tiny dots of light filled my eyes with light pictures. In a few minutes Amie led me around the playground. I stopped. "Are we done yet?" I squealed quietly.
"I think in a few more minutes..."
"OK everyone in the classroom!" Mrs Millett loudly shouted.
