This
week some of the Room 20 learners have been finding out what it's like
to be a leader.
Every day this week a number of Room 20 students lead
UHPS students through conflict resolution as peer mediators.
On
Wednesday, Tyler and her sister Jade taught us all how to play a
fantastic new board game.
On Thursday, Harrison, Joseph, Liam and
Mitchell organised and ran a game of Tee Ball on the field at lunchtime
for some Year 3 and 4 children.
Wow! How fantastic to be so good at
something that you can teach others how to do it. I wonder what other
leaders will emerge next? Is there something you might to lead?
On Friday we had a fantastic day at Waiake Beach for our first Trailblazers community trip. Here is a movie showing highlights of our day.
Last weekend it was a special time in many Chinese and
Korean homes. It was the beginning of Chinese and Korean new year. At
our first team assembly EunChae, Nadia and Natasha shared about what
their families do to celebrate this special time. Here are some photos
from the assembly.
For our first piece of writing this year we all brainstormed about our first day in Room 20. Here are some of our impressions of our new class.
First Day of School, By Nadia Lee
It's the first day of school and I was positive that nothing is going to make this special day dull. The air was damp and moist and the sky grey, but my insides were sunny and bright...
The moment I stepped out of the car, the cold wind sailed past me, making me shiver. I quickly raced to the foyer. I tasted the familiar crisp air and smelt the smell of clean uniforms. I took a deep breath and started down the stairs.
I reached the Tio block, last year known as the 'Fireflies' community. I stared at it. It seems to give me an encouraging smile, despite the cold. I felt a familiar rush of warmth and excitement just like the day I stepped into Pohutukawa Bay last year.
Slowly walking into Room 20, a comforting smell of new ink, the blinding bursts of colour and the sound of pencils scratching on paper.
My excitement was contagious!
Room 20- By Daniel Wood
As I walked in to the room my heart was a time bomb. Boom, boom ... it stopped!
I slowly got tired, but bang! "Good morning class", Mrs Millett said with excitement.
It was like a sea of blue because of all 29 uniforms. I felt happy and excited.
On our first day back at school in the Tio community we got together and played several team building games.
It was great to see our Year 2-6 students working together and having fun as they got to know each other and help each other achieve the goals.
Here are some photos from the team building day...
Hi and welcome back to Room 20 at UHPS. I'm looking forward to this blog becoming everyone's place to share our learning journey. There will be loads of stories and posts about our learning this year, and you can also link to some cool games and resources available in time too. Enjoy the ride...
